Chances are you’re newly engaged, or maybe you have a friend that’s starting to plan her big day. You’re scrolling on your phone, wondering WHERE ON EARTH you should even begin your quest to lock in the perfect photographer. I get it girlfriend, Instagram makes it hard because everyone is LEGIT amazing, so where do you even start? In order to ensure you’re hiring the perfect photographer for you, here are four things you should be doing before making that decision:
- You Know What Style You Like + You’re Interviewing Photographers That Have What You’re Looking For: What style are you jiving with? There are SO many different types of photography styles out there. From dark and moody, to light and airy, to pops of color, to film photographers and everything in between. What do you find yourself most drawn to? What style do you see yourself still loving 20 years down the road? Make sure you figure out what style you like before hiring, as photographers never alter their style once they’ve found it. Also, by figuring out what style you like, you make the process of finding your perfect fit SO much easier as you’ve narrowed down the pool.
- You’ve Requested to See A Full Gallery Of A Real Wedding Let’s face it, the inter webs these days makes wedding photography look flawless because everyones putting their best foot forward. As a bride it’s imperative that you look past instagram (for just a second) and request to see a few real wedding galleries. The reason this is so important is because you are able to see a photographers full range, and how they handle various lighting situations (not just those beautiful sunset photos you swooned over on their instagram).
- You Dig Their Personality It’s important to really browse through a photographers website and socials so you can get a feel for who they are as a person, and not just behind the camera. Acquaint yourself with the content they’ve put out and familiarize yourself with who they are — then book a consultation. Lots of consultations are done via Skype or FaceTime these days, but that’s ok. You’re putting a face to a name and getting to see if you vibe well. You’ll be working a lot with this person, so it’s vital that you really jive with not just their work but their personality.
- You’ve Read Their Reviews Word of mouth is everything these days. As your narrowing down your search, I highly suggest browsing the web to find reviews so you can find how others felt about their past experience.
